Getting started

Four steps from install to first playback.

Step 01

Install the app

Download Trovu from the App Store on your Apple TV. It works on any Apple TV HD or 4K running tvOS 17 or later.

Step 02

Choose Jellyfin or Plex

For Jellyfin, type your server URL or IP address. For Plex, sign in with your Plex account, pick a server found on your network, or enter an address manually.

Step 03

Sign in with a pin code

Jellyfin uses Quick Connect: approve the six-digit code from any browser. Plex uses plex.tv/link. No password typing on the remote either way.

Step 04

Start watching

Your library appears immediately while the rest syncs in the background. Pick something and press play.

Playback

What plays directly on Apple TV.

If your file uses these formats, the Apple TV decodes it on its own. Your Jellyfin or Plex server only has to hand over the bytes.

Multi-server

  • ·Add servers from the Servers screen in Settings.
  • ·Browse all servers together or filter to one.
  • ·Search, continue watching, and recently added all aggregate across servers.
  • ·Each server keeps its own session and credentials.

Subscription

  • ·Restore: open Settings in Trovu and tap Restore Purchases.
  • ·Manage: Apple TV Settings, then Users and Accounts, then your Apple ID, then Subscriptions.
  • ·Cancel any time from Apple TV Settings.
  • ·Free tier has no time limits and no feature locks below 1080p.

Network and access

  • ·Your Apple TV needs network access to your Jellyfin or Plex server (local or remote).
  • ·If a file will not play, check that the server is reachable and the format is in the playback list.
  • ·Library data is cached on-device so the home screen opens instantly.

Account and privacy

  • ·No Trovu account exists. Sign-in goes directly to your Jellyfin server or your Plex account.
  • ·No analytics or tracking. The app stores credentials in the system keychain on the Apple TV.
  • ·Trovu does not see your library content, your watch history, or your IP address.
Requirements

Hardware and server versions.

Apple TV

  • tvOS 17.0 or later
  • Apple TV HD (4th generation) or newer
  • Apple TV 4K, any generation

Media Server

  • Jellyfin 10.8.0 or later recommended, with Quick Connect enabled for pin sign-in
  • Plex Media Server, any recent version (a recent server is needed for the Live TV guide)
  • Server reachable from your Apple TV (local or remote)
